Indoor Cricket Centre, Edgbaston Birmingham
This 8 Lane indoor practice centre provides facilities professional cricketers and community groups alike. Working in collaboration with David Morley Architects, we designed a versatile, functional, naturally lit and naturally ventilated building which delivers outstanding value for its low energy and low maintenance credentials. It is constructed from standardized industrial components - an inner lining of white coated steel maximizes glare-free light from the roof lights allows the facility to be used during daylight hours without the addition of artificial lighting.
In addition to the practice space and changing rooms, the building accommodates office space for regional, youth and disabled cricket boards, a shop and a function room, bar with views into the practice area and a top floor outdoor terrace. The centre is well equipped for use by disabled users. We took particular care to integrate the centre within the locale and collaborated with local artists to incorporate artwork into the street façade.
